Tax Mistake #9 - Getting a Big Tax Return

A lot of people look forward to a large tax return every year. This really is not a good idea, however, for a couple of reasons. Here is why you do not want to look forward to getting a large tax return every year.

Getting a large tax return means that you did not "optimize your tax return," says taxinformation.org. This means that you should more carefully estimate your taxes for next year and not have them take out so much each paycheck. When you think about how you could have used this extra money through the year, you would have done better by having access to it.

Instead of letting Uncle Sam keep your tax money for you throughout the year, you could have used it instead to reduce any debt that you have. Another good reason to get this 1040 tax money earlier would be so that you could put it into a savings account of some kind where you could earn some interest on it. In a year's time, a lot of interest could be gained.
